A Fantastic Day in Doncaster
On 1st March 2025, CNEDMC Festival Band had an unforgettable experience performing at the Music for Youth Regional Festival in Doncaster. The day was filled with excitement, inspiration, and outstanding musical performances from youth groups across the region. Taking to the MFY stage was an incredible opportunity for our musicians to showcase their hard work and passion for music.
Our Repertoire and Performance
We performed two contrasting pieces:

You Can’t Stop the Beat
Both pieces challenged the band in different ways, and we were thrilled with how well they were received. The feedback from David Beer, our Music Mentor, was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting both the individual and ensemble strengths of our performance.

David Beer was particularly impressed with the clarinet solos and the strong ensemble playing. He praised the full and carefully balanced sound in our first piece, noting how well we captured the fun and dynamism of the composition. The timpani at the end was a standout moment, adding a confident and dramatic finish.
Our second piece provided an excellent contrast, and David admired the off-beat tambourine at the start. He highlighted the percussion section’s impressive groove, the brass section’s unity, and the saxophone solo’s strength. It was fantastic to hear that our performance was a real crowd-pleaser!
It was also noted how wonderful it was to see such a wide range of instruments, including two bassoons—something not always common in youth ensembles!
A Day to Remember
Beyond our performance, the day was an amazing experience for everyone involved. Being surrounded by other talented youth groups was truly inspiring, and we loved the opportunity to watch and learn from our peers. Performing on the Music for Youth stage was a huge highlight, and we are so proud of how we played. The trip was filled with fun, laughter, and great music, and we can’t wait for the next opportunity to showcase our talent!
